2025 WINNER · Travel industry

For people working in aviation and logistics, fatigue affects both wellbeing and the safe delivery of work. Dulsco People’s winning entry brought recovery, peer support and practical access to care into that operational context.

What they did

The submission described pre-shift self-health declarations for drivers, covering readiness for duty and rest. Employees who were unfit could receive a rest day without penalty. Paid mental health days and trained Mental Health First Aiders provided additional routes to support.

A 24-hour medical supervisor team helped employees navigate hospital visits, insurance and medical logistics. A digital grievance system tracked concerns against resolution targets. Training, health campaigns and social activities supported connection among colleagues living away from home.

What the entry shows

Dulsco reported that its annual Welfare Month engaged more than 5,300 employees. It also reported 1,320 training sessions and 15,175 participations, which should not be treated as a count of unique individuals.

A 17.3% reduction in significant Accident Frequency Rate was reported alongside the wider programme. The submission does not isolate wellbeing activity as the cause of that change.

What others can learn

The practical lesson is to make it safe to acknowledge being unfit for work. A policy that encourages disclosure needs a workable response, including recovery time and access to help.

In a dispersed operational workforce, removing administrative barriers to care can be as important as raising awareness of the services available.
