How Lumii.me connected student check-ins with human support

2025 WINNER · Mental health technology innovation
Lumii.me’s winning entry explored how schools could give students an accessible way to express how they were feeling while helping wellbeing teams identify where human attention might be needed.
What they did
The platform used AI-supported conversations within a controlled environment, alongside dashboards and a traffic-light approach to flagging concerns. The submission described human oversight and safeguarding processes as part of the model.
The design identified the system as AI and included tools for staff to review information and respond. A staff platform supported multiple languages. A 14-month beta period gave the team an opportunity to refine the experience before wider use.
What the entry shows
The entry reported 67,484 conversations in its Term 3 reporting period and a 14% increase in engagement. It also reported an increase in severe-risk flags. Those flags represent signals requiring attention, not diagnoses or proof that the prevalence of risk had increased.
The data demonstrates use of the platform. It does not by itself show a clinical improvement in students’ mental health or guarantee that every concern will be detected.
What others can learn
Technology can create another route for a student to communicate, but the value depends on what happens next. Clear responsibility, trained staff and appropriate escalation remain central.
Lumii.me’s example places the connection between a digital check-in and human response at the centre of the story.
