How Resicare Alliance prepared carers for trauma-informed work

2025 WINNER · Front line heroes
Resicare Alliance’s winning submission described professional development for people supporting children and young people affected by conflict. The programme was developed at the request of South South Medical Alliance and implemented in September 2025 for a Gaza task force.
What they did
The 12-day programme comprised six modules, combining workshops, case studies and supervision. Its structure included 72 contact hours and 36 hours of guided independent study.
Topics ranged from trauma-informed principles and culturally responsive practice to communication, referral pathways and creating safe spaces. Professional self-care and peer support were included alongside the skills required to support others.
Scenario-based work helped practitioners consider difficult situations before encountering them in practice. The programme was described as non-credit-bearing; alignment with professional standards was not presented as accreditation.
What the entry shows
The submission reported delivery and positive initial feedback, with evaluation still ongoing. It did not provide a completed outcome dataset or evidence of changes in the children supported.
Its documented contribution was a structured training pathway for practitioners facing complex demands, with professional resilience included in that preparation.
What others can learn
Supporting frontline practitioners means developing both competence and the conditions for sustainable practice. Skills, ethical reflection, supervision and peer support belong together.
Where evaluation is still developing, a clear account of what was delivered is more useful than overstating impact. It provides a foundation for assessing how the learning is used over time.
